Japanese ink forged through 1,300 years of history

Szuka Zumi

Suzuka Zumi is a traditional Japanese ink originating in Suzuka, Mie Prefecture, with a history that dates back over 1,300 years. The region’s favorable climate and natural resources made it an ideal birthplace for ink making, shaping a craft deeply rooted in Japanese culture.

Each piece of Suzuka Zumi is crafted entirely by hand using traditional techniques and domestically sourced materials. Today, the craft is preserved by only two remaining master artisans—a father and son—who continue a rare, single-lineage tradition.

Designated as a Traditional Craft by the Japanese government, Suzuka Zumi represents the depth, balance, and refinement of Japanese craftsmanship, carrying its legacy from Suzuka to the world.
