[A rare lactic acid bacterium, found in a cherry blossom]
Sakura-Derived Lactic Acid Bacteria® was discovered in the flowers of Somei-Yoshino cherry trees in Oita, Kyushu. Most lactic acid bacteria are animal-derived; isolating plant-derived strains is far from easy. Isolating one from a cherry blossom had never been done before — it took several failed attempts to succeed, an industry first in cosmetics. It was isolated and studied through joint research with Saga University, presented at academic conferences, and is registered under Japanese Patent No. 7486728.
