Ogata Kōrin was the founder of the Rinpa school of painting, later known for its decorative, large-scale compositions, and was one of the leading painters of the mid-Edo period. His extraordinary sense of design gave rise to the term "Kōrin pattern," and his influence on Japanese painting, crafts, and design continues to this day. The original painting is a fan-shaped plaque box by Ogata Kōrin, a nationally important cultural property housed in the Yamato Bunkakan Museum in Nara, depicting Mount Fuji appearing beyond the Miho Pine Grove. In this work, Mount Fuji with its snow-capped peak is depicted on the front, and the Miho Pine Grove is depicted on the back. The rim is also decorated with the auspicious Shippō pattern, adding a touch of splendor.
