This natsume features authentic maki-e lacquerware.
The "egg-shell gold maki-e" natsume is finished using a rare lacquer art technique that uses eggshells to create white expressions.

It is difficult to express pure white with lacquer, and the transparency and delicate texture unique to the natural white of eggshells create the beauty characteristic of this work. The fine crack-like patterns evoke a sense of fragility and serenity, and by resonating with the brilliance of the gold maki-e, they create a landscape with depth.

The eggshells used are carefully selected one by one, with blemishes removed and thin membranes peeled off. Only after this painstakingly thorough preparation can they be used as a material. Furthermore, the process of meticulously attaching each tiny piece of eggshell requires extremely high concentration and a long time, as it is done by positioning them with a tool as fine as a toothpick.

The "egg-shell inlay" technique, passed down through generations, is now handled by very few craftsmen, making it an extremely rare technique.

This piece harmonizes delicate white, the quiet expression of cracks, and the elegance of gold maki-e. It is a masterpiece that will add a dignified beauty to your tea ceremony and whose luster will deepen with use, something to be cherished for a long time.
