vews-of-mt-fuji
Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji Tetsubin

"Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji" is a series of ukiyo-e prints of Mount Fuji by Katsushika Hokusai, a ukiyo-e artist from the late Edo period. The prints depict a sea of trees below, mackerel clouds in the sky, and snow patches remaining on the summit of Mount Fuji. "Gaifu" means a gentle southerly wind that blows in summer. "The Great Wave off Kanagawa" is composed of three elements: a large wave, three ships, and Mount Fuji in the background. Ukiyo-e prints made their way to Europe in the late 1870s, where they were highly praised by the Impressionist painter Van Gogh, and influenced European artists, with composer Debussy even conceiving his symphonic poem "La Mer" (The Sea). This work is a precise casting of two of Hokusai's most famous depictions of Mount Fuji.
